Thursdays game has been cancelled
Due to the weather, Frederick County Public Schools have been cancelled for Thursday. Therefore, Thursdays game against Washington High School has been cancelled.
OHS vs Gov. Thomas Johnson HS
Sorry for the delay in posting. I still don't have any Internet at home due to snow and ice storms. Tuesday night the Bears played at Thomas Johnson High School. Before the game started there was a surprise celebration for Coach Dickman, former coach of Gov. Thomas Johnson High School. (Coach Dickman was Coach Connolly's high school coach) Coach Dickman retired from coaching high school basketball in 2003 and was never honored for his 29 years of service, his extreme dedication to Governor Thomas Johnson High School Boys Basketball and his achievements (most wins of any high school coach in the state of Maryland- 592 wins, with 14 regional championships and 7 state championships). It was a dedication and tribute long over due. Coach Dickman put Frederick County Boys Basketball on the map in the state of Maryland and lots of kids that have come thru his program have been blessed to have him as a coach. Many were in attendance last night to shake his hand to pay tribute. Thanks Coach Dickman!!!
The game was a very physical game and both teams played hard with determination. All Bears saw playing time and the final score was Oakdale 77 - TJ 50. The next game was scheduled for Thursday at Washington High School, however school has been cancelled due to the weather. Therefore, Thursdays game has been cancelled. The next game is scheduled for Friday, but we will have to see how much snow falls. They are calling for 12-18 inches in some areas. GO BEARS!!!!

OHS vs Urbana
Tonight before the game even started, the house was packed. I believe the ticket table closed 3 minutes before the game started. Both student sections were packed with kids and the Oakdale Student section was so loud both coaches had a hard time communicating with their teams. It was Breast Cancer Awareness Night so most of the fans were in Pink.
The game started aggressive and emotions were high on both sides. Oakdale took the lead at the end of the 1st period (12-8) but the Hawks fought back and played tight defense to hold the Bears to 6 points in the 2nd period. The Bears came into the 3rd quarter with a passion and fought hard to take a strong lead and at one point was leading by 10 points. The fourth quarter was hard fought by both, with the Hawks hitting a few shots to get back in the game and tying the game with close to a minute to go. It was a battle until the end and Clay Conner took a shot with seconds on the clock to win the game. The crowd erupted with cheers! FINAL SCORE: Oakdale 50 - Urbana 48
The next game is scheduled for Tuesday night at Thomas Johnson High School.

OHS vs Tuscarora
Sorry for the delayed posting but I didn't have any Internet at home due to the power outage (ice storm). The Bears played at Tuscarora HS on Tuesday night. The gym was only half full due to the approaching ice storm. Oakdale and Tuscarora played a tough 1st quarter but then the Bears played really tough defense in the 2nd period only allowing Tuscarora to score 2 points in that period. The Bears dominated the rest of the game and all Bears saw playing. Again, almost all Bears scored in the game. FINAL: OHS 77 - Tuscarora 46.

OHS vs Frederick (2,000 game)
It was another amazing evening for the Oakdale Basketball program, the team, OHS, the community, and Zach Thomas. The gym was packed with people from all over, many traveled to witness something special that doesn't happen too often. (family from out of town, community, and friends) Zach Thomas needed 14 points to reach the 2,000 point mark in his career. In the 3rd quarter he was able to make that mark with a 3 pointer at the top of the key. The fans went crazy and the gym stood up. The game was stopped and Channel 25 Alive and the Frederick News Post photographer was able to get a few pictures. Zach was presented with a game ball and the fans held a sign up of congratulations and the student section also had signs that read "2,000 - Zach Thomas #23." It was a memorable moment for Zach, the community, and Oakdale High School.*****Based on the below research, we believe Zach Thomas is the 3rd Md Public High School Player (male) to reach 2,000 Career Points. Albert Mourning's State Record is 2,513 career points.
The game itself was a fast paced game and very physical. The Bears dominated most of the game but Frederick never gave up. Both teams played hard and with much emotion. All of the Bears saw playing time and almost all of them scored. The team set another school record this evening by tying the record for the most points scored in a game (93). It was a total TEAM effort last night and the Bears really played well together. GO BEARS!!! FINAL SCORE: OHS 93 - FHS 53
The next game is scheduled for Tuesday night (Feb. 2) AWAY at Tuscarora High School.
